Olympus was developed initially as an electronic banking platform 2001 servicing one of the Banks in South Africa. A redeveloped Olympus 3.0 was deployed handling transaction integrations between cash acceptance customers, handling the reporting and accounting of the transactions and switching the transactions through integrations into another two major South African banks. It operated in this capacity from 2006 to 2012, processing at peak an estimated 1,800 transactions per second, and a total of 5,000 accounts with a total transaction volume of 3,000,000 transactions per month.
In 2009 we started development of Mobile Money acquiring modules for accepting debit card-based transactions using the PayD 1.0 transaction structure. The main client for this was the purchasing and delivery of airtime vouchers for the two main cellular providers in South Africa.
This system is integrated to most of the major South African system operators with continuous processing which is one of the core features of the Olympus system.
Olympus has an Alliance Banking Sponsorship agreement with Access Bank South Africa Limited.
